The struggle of housing insecurity has been an ongoing problem in the Appalachian region due to a lack of shelter and resources for those in need. To combat this issue, HAPCAP put together the Sunset Shelter Project, which is a community initiative to turn the Sunset Motel on Columbus Road into a temporary housing shelter. Vibrancy Theatre put on Booty Candy last week. Booty Candy explores the theme of growing up as a black and queer person in America. The show is known for its comedy, while still highlighting the complexities of identity in black culture. An actress in Booty Candy says she loves the play becuase it spreads the message that you can't separate being black and queer, and it should be celebrated. Athens Beautification Month aims to revamp the city

Athens Beautification Month, held throughout April, is an annual event where anyone in Athens can volunteer to help clean up and beautify the city. They transitioned from beautification day to beautification month to ensure the projects that need extra attention have time to succeed. One of the major clean ups the community is working on is renovating the Sunset Motel into a homeless shelter for those in need. OU graduate student transforms chemotherapy education

Abel Jarrahi, a Scripps College of Communication graduate student has created a company called VR Medical Solutions for his project, "Chemotherapy Unveiled". It simulates a chemotherapy facility to ease the initial anxiety and confusion of chemotherapy treatments, helping patients feel more prepared. Jarrahi says his research confirms the effectiveness of virtual reality in medical education and addressing real-world challenges. Dance students explain how this showcase is one of the bigger showcases they perform during the year, where guest choreographers and faculty choreograph the pieces. Hocking Hills Garment Center threads jobs, sustainability together

Athens native, Betsy Franjola, created the Hocking Hills Garment Center by repurposing an old church into a factory in Buchtel, Ohio. Franjola hopes to create meaningful jobs in the community, while also supplying local businesses with sustainable, quality clothing. HHGC also plans to launch their own in-house line, where they will oversee both sourcing and manufacturing.
