Booty Candy explores identities of black, queer people in America

Vibrancy Theatre put on Booty Candy last week. Booty Candy explores the theme of growing up as a black and queer person in America. The show is known for its comedy, while still highlighting the complexities of identity in black culture. An actress in Booty Candy says she loves the play becuase it spreads the message that you can't separate being black and queer, and it should be celebrated. Dr. Dashiell leaves her impact, legacy on OU

Dr. Eddith Dashiell is retiring after 33 years of impactful work in journalism. For the past five years she's been the Director of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, and she was the first woman and African American to fill the role. Dr. D has inspired so many students over the years and she will continue to be an advocate of free speech and journalism. Passion Works expands to reach larger community, more resources

OU Vibrations prepares for spring show

OU Vibrations is a student dance group open for all regardless of dance experience, and they perform at many different events throughout the school year. Dancers in Vibrations say they love it becuase it's an opportunity to have fun and dance without the competitiveness. Crowds pour in to Bagel Street Deli for Picklefest

Friday, hundreds of people packed Bagel Street Deli for its annual Picklefest, a pickle eating competition. Some say they signed up for fun to see what it's like, but others may not have performed to their best ability. The winner of Picklefest gets to create their own bagel on the menu, as well as pick a charity to donate their earnings too. Student Senate celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community with Pride Week

This week OU Student Senate is holding Pride Week to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community. The events range from art competitions and wellness discussions to a pride prom and a panel of drag queens. They also have a display of pride flags on North Green which students say is really powerful to see. The events run until March 22nd. Triota Honors Society discusses concerns with gender-based violence and SB 1

The Triota Honors Society and Academic Honors Society for women, gender and sexuality studies recently hosted a discussion about gender based violence, policy changes with SB 1 and the future of research funding. Triota says their group provides a space for discussion and social change among students. Dr. Holly Ningard came to speak about these challenges and says she worries funding will be taken away from key anti-violence initiatives. Esports gains popularity at OU

Ohio University's Esports team, founded in 2017 has over 400 members, all gathering for serious gaming. The Esports club offers opportunities for tournament play, broadcasting, event management and even professional opportunities. Students on the team say they've truly found their community through this club.
