Budget cuts threaten Appalachian region

Although Ohio University students call Appalachian Ohio home for four years, many do not have a complete understanding of what Appalachia really is.  It is a word that gets tossed from here to there, usually associated with local events or organizations. But during these crucial years when young scholars are straddling their early twenties, it is the environment in which they live. Yet students harbor misguided notions of what Appalachia means.

Junior College transfer ready to make an impact

Tight end Ryan Antle transferred to Ohio along with defensive back Andre' Bradford from Pasadena City Junior College. The 6-foot-4-inch, 250-pound Antle was First Team All Mission Conference last season. He is expected to challenge for a starting spot. Israel releases 100 prisoners in advance of Bush summit

AL KHADER, West Bank — Israel freed about 100 Palestinian prisoners yesterday in a goodwill gesture ahead of a Mideast peace summit with President Bush. The oldest, convicted of killing 13 Israelis, was greeted upon his release with clasped hands by Yasser Arafat.

Relaxed rules skirt competetion among media

The Federal Communications Commission recently relaxed the rules regarding media ownership. The ruling, passed with a 3-2 vote, allows companies to buy additional television stations and own a newspaper and broadcast outlet in the same city.
