Over the break, I had the opportunity to travel to Fairbanks, Alaska. In September, my boyfriend moved there for a job, and I hadn’t seen him since then, so I knew it would be an exciting trip regardless of the actual destination.

In previous semesters, I have witnessed students take what I can only guess would amount to years off their lives due to the stress that finals carry with them as well as the unhealthy practices that many employ into their studying regimens.
Animal House, for those of you who are unaware of the epic movie based on a fictitious fraternity in the ’70s, is the moniker we decided to name our house this school year. I bear a striking resemblance to John Belushi (who played John Blutarsky in the movie) and our goal for the school year was to rock the block as many times as possible. We accomplished that within the first weekend.
In last week’s column, I noted that some estimates for the recent earthquake in Athens County indicated it originated too deep in the Earth’s crust for human activities to have been a factor. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the depth was 7.9 km, and this was the figure cited in the Nov. 21 article in The Post. So far, the story adds up.

I was in Baker Center when the floor started shaking and felt more bemused than startled afterward. How peculiar! Baker doesn’t do much shaking generally, so I assumed a piece of construction equipment or a large truck must have hit the building. This was not completely out of left field, as I heard the beeping sound of a truck backing up a few seconds later. People were wondering what had happened, and I offered my guess without too much conviction. Then, I looked out the window to see if I could see anything. Nope, nothing. So, I shrugged.

Apparently this Monday, and the bulk majority of Sunday, my mind felt like it would be a good idea to reflect on my college experience from my new senior perspective. Upon first review, this idea seemed to be about as fun as going into a midterm still tipsy from the night before. I figured that once my mind entered this splendid train of thought my social media profiles would be as much as of a train wreck as Miley Cyrus was during the MTV Video Music Awards.
