In November 2023 the movie “Saltburn,” directed by Emerald Fennell, was released and quickly became a significant pop culture phenomenon. The movie blew up on social media because of a few controversial and relatively disturbing scenes. Even though many people think that the movie is weird, I feel that in a few years, this movie will become something of a cult classic.

“Poor Things” is an over two-hour long, star-studded film that was released Dec. 8, 2023. It was the vibrantly whimsical lovechild of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” and L. Frank Baum’s “The Wizard of Oz,” as it contains themes from both pieces. On the surface, it was a wonderfully done movie, considering the multifaceted cinematography, the eerie orchestral scores and the perfect casting. But what makes “Poor Things” a masterpiece is its unique but thorough execution of themes such as nature vs. society and the journey from girlhood to womanhood through the lens of autonomy.

Graduating high school and moving on to college has started a whirlwind of questions about life and time that are beginning to consume me. My fear of growing old and becoming an adult is ultimately driven by a fear of death. And for once, I know I am not alone. It is a natural human instinct to fear death and wonder about "the great beyond." Most people are naturally, even subconsciously, afraid of change; and death is the biggest change of all.

On Dec. 2, 2023, rock history was made: Kiss performed in Madison Square Garden on the group’s last stop of the “The End of the Road” tour and announced it would be done with live tours. Although this is not the first time Kiss has gone on a farewell tour, many anticipated that this would be one of the last globe-spanning tours the legendary rock band would go on, largely due to individual members’ health issues and old age.
