The smiling face of All Campus Radio Network’s vibrant red lobster mascot, Snat, signaled the must-attend live show of the year had arrived. Lobsterfest, ACRN’s three-day music festival and biggest event of the year, tore the walls of The Union down Friday and Saturday night, and chords were left echoing through the Scripps Amphitheater during Sunday’s brightest hours.

Ohio University's All-Campus Radio Network held their annual "Punk Prom" at The Union, where various local bands played at the event. Members of ACRN and students at OU came together to listen, dance and celebrate Valentine's weekend.

Saturday night gave way to an annual opportunity for students who enjoy fun music and dressing in an exuberant style. Ohio University’s All-Campus Radio Network hosted its Punk Prom at The Union Bar, located at 18 W. Union St.

In 2021, Athens’ very own alternative outfit, The Laughing Chimes, released their debut effort, “In This Town.” The album was solid, rooting back to the old roots of jangle-pop bands such as R.E.M and Pavement. Since then, the band has played shows tirelessly across the stretches of Ohio and beyond. Occasionally, new singles would sprinkle onto the band’s discography and teased a new, darker sound.

The Union’s four walls are plastered with posters and set lists of bands who have come and gone through the Athens music scene. On Thursday, these posters were joined by streamers, balloons and lobster cutouts, indicating the arrival of ACRN’s annual Battle of the Bands. At this highly anticipated event, five groups had the chance to solidify their legacies and earn a place on the walls.

Sixth-year music composition major and drummer Caden Primmer’s back porch sits on a hill overlooking a parking lot, tucked back in a thicket of trees. There is a hammock on the porch’s beams, a row of movie theater chairs and bag chairs set up, one of which has a three-quarters-full PBR can in the cupholder.
