After 72 hours of competition, the Bobcats left the SPIRE Institute in Geneva with thoughts of what "could have been" after finishing in sixth place at the Mid-American Conference Championships.
In terms of the leaderboards of the three-day tournament, Ohio saw very little movement, as the Bobcats finished sixth on the first day, seventh on the second and then back to sixth at the end of the weekend. The finish is tied for Ohio’s worst in the meet since 1981.
The big picture, however, doesn’t take away from some individual accomplishments by the Bobcats.
Junior Morgan Srail captured the three-meter dive championship with a school record of 339.05 and sophomore Addison Ferguson placed first in the 100-yard butterfly event, in addition to repeating as the 100-yard backstroke champion.
Senior Laurin Williams and sophomore Haley Clark were named Second Team All-MAC, while diving coach Russ Dekker was named the MAC’s Diving coach of the year.
The drop in standards was disappointing for the team, as just last year the Bobcats placed second at the 2013 MAC Championships.
Coach Derick Roe led the Bobcats in the MAC Championships for the first time this weekend. He assumed head coaching duties after former coach Greg Werner was terminated following the Ball State meet on Oct. 26.
Roe was not made available for comment the entire weekend.
The Bobcats’ postseason will continue with the NCAA Zone Championships on March 13.
