How many times has the Ohio offensive line commit Jake Pruehs been on the losing end? A mere two times.
He has won 23 games during his two-year starting career at St. Edward High School and this winning mindset doesn’t come to a player overnight. It’s a special trait that is developed through long off-seasons and maintaining a mental toughness.
Pruehs has grown to understand that, as he plans to bring his winning attitude to Peden Stadium for the years come.
“Countless hours in the weight room have contributed the most to our winning mentality,” Pruehs said. “The only team that can beat St. Edward is St. Edward.
Basically, we believe that we control our own fate. When our team goes 23-2 in just two seasons, it’s just part of our culture.”
Along with winning, Pruehs understands the importance of brotherhood among teammates, especially the offensive line.
“At (St. Edward), we’re together as a whole offensive line. We all keep each other up and play with each other,” Pruehs said. “I’ve already talked to the other offensive linemen that are committed to Ohio. I don’t think it will be a problem coming together with them. It’s just a lifestyle we have.”
Pruehs is bringing his fair share of talents to the Bobcat football program, but the 6-foot-2, 285-pound offensive lineman admitted that Ohio is giving him much in return through academics and football.
“I visited probably 20 different colleges and Ohio is the best, by far,” Pruehs said.
“I love the whole atmosphere they have down there. Plus, they’re a great program that has been to numerous bowl games in past years.”
Despite being warned about the workload involved for balancing academics and athletics, Pruehs is planning to major in engineering.
“I’m going into Ohio’s engineering and a lot of people say going into engineering while being a full-time football player is almost impossible. The coaches and professors at OU told me I could do it, and I know I can do it.”
He has prided himself on three things in his life that have shaped him into the man he is today.
“My whole life is pretty much football, school and my family. I work so hard in school to make sure I get a good education,” Pruehs said. “Football is just a way for me to develop myself in a whole different sense. My family and the people around me have been so supportive along the way.”
Pruehs will look to extend his 23-2 record this Saturday when he looks to lead the team to a State Championship game during a final four contest against Mentor at InfoCision Stadium.
