They'll meet from 5-7 p.m. in the LGBT Center in Baker
Those of you who were at Ohio University last year may remember some of the tensions that revolved around Take Back the Night, a week of events that address issues of gender-based and sexual violence. Although this year’s week of Take Back the Night events is not scheduled until April 13-17, the Women’s Affairs Commission on Student Senate wants to make sure that we can include as many perspectives as possible, as we plan this week.
To this end, we will be hosting an open discussion tonight from 5-7 p.m. in the LGBT Center in Baker. This is the third discussion we’ve hosted, and we have more discussions planned for the future. Anyone who is interested in Take Back the Night is more than welcome to attend. We’ll be talking about whether to have a women-only event during the week and other types of events that should happen. Even if you cannot attend but you would like to contribute to our vision for this week, please feel free to contact me at mk400810@ohio.edu.
Take Back the Night is not a static thing, and it does not have to be any one particular way. We can shape these events to what our community needs. My hope for this week is to have a variety of events that respond to the multiplicity of perspectives from people who attend Ohio University or live in Athens. As a community, we can come together to make this week of events a healing and empowering space for as many possible. If you are interested in contributing to this planning, please come to our discussion or contact me.
