Women's Golf: Bobcats garner top-5 finish

The Ohio women’s golf team finished fourth in the Cardinal Classic at Ball State University with an overall score of 624.

Senior Megan Weaver shot a 150 and finished in fourth place, and sophomore Kara Brinkmann tied for 16thby sinking three birdies after having two bad holes. Coach Kelly Ovington said she was very pleased with Brinkmann’s tournament despite a couple miscues on holes.

“She’s been outstanding in her mental game, and allowing herself to just make a mistake but learn from it and try to convert on the next opportunity,” Ovington said.

Senior Meryl Weaver tied for thirteenth place after the first round but dropped to a tie for 2nd after shooting an 81 on Sunday.

“I know each of them could probably pick out at least three or four shots that they would have liked to pull back, but you can’t dwell on them. You have to go to the next hole and try to do your best on the next one,” Ovington said.

After shooting a 310 and securing a fourth-place finish on Saturday, Ohio held its position in the tournament on Sunday by shooting a 314.

“We probably could have done a bit lower, but they’re amazing the way they bounce back from the adversity,” Ovington said.

Host Ball State finished in second in the tournament with Southern Illinois finishing atop the leaderboard both days to take first place.

Ohio’s men’s golf team travels to Bowling Green for the John Piper Intercollegiate today and tomorrow.
