In typical Jane The Virgin fashion, the audience is left guessing what is going to happen to one of the show’s best characters after this week’s episode.
Last week’s episode ended with Jane (Gina Rodriguez) and Rafael (Justin Baldoni) finally getting engaged and almost getting married, but they decided to wait and plan the perfect wedding.
This week brings back one of the show’s favorite characters, Lina (Diane Guerrero), who flies to Miami to help Jane find a wedding dress. However, when they’re shopping for wedding dresses, Lina asks Jane if she’d consider giving her one of her eggs because she and her husband are having trouble conceiving. Jane, of course, has a plethora of questions but ultimately thinks it’s a bad idea that will complicate their friendship.
However, after much thought, Jane decides she wants to give Lina her eggs, only to have Lina tell her she realized the complications too and doesn’t want them anymore. Instead, Lina wants Jane to be her baby’s godmother.
“I just don’t want to complicate our friendship,” Lina said. “It’s too important to me.”
After it’s decided Petra (Yael Grobglas) will be Rafael’s best woman, Petra then decides to give Rafael a job at The Marbella, working closely with her on the hotels ventures, and it seems only fitting since he used to own the place. After he takes the job, Rafael starts to put his wedding planning with Jane on the back burner more and staying later at work, causing Jane to momentarily worry that he’s falling back into his old patterns, and they won’t be able to nail down a minister for their wedding.
However, Jane quickly realizes Rafael is just trying to chase his dream, and the two are stronger and more excited than ever. In fact, the two even ask Alba (Ivonne Coll) to marry them, solving the problem of their minister.
That is, until Rafael tells Jane he doesn’t want to have any more kids. Even though it isn’t a dealbreaker for her, she’s still sad about it. However, the narrator (Anthony Mendez) clues the audience in on the fact that one of them will eventually change their mind.
“And friends, one of them eventually would,” the narrator said. “I won’t tell you who, but you can probably guess.”
Of course, after Petra and Rafael get into a huge argument at work, which could possibly put Rafael’s new position in jeopardy, they both realize they have some apologizing to do because they’re such great friends. After their apologies, Petra discovers her mother was hiding in her car, and the two get into a car accident, leaving fans to wonder if Petra will make it out alive.
The episode is filled with flashbacks revolving around Jane’s first wedding, and it makes for great reminiscent moments on parts of the show the audience has loved over the years. However, the cute flashbacks were somewhat outweighed with Petra’s life on the line.
