Elliot Long made his first appearance as Graduate Student Senate’s LGBT Affairs Commissioner at Monday’s meeting.
Long used the meeting as an opportunity to thank the senate for appointing him to his position.
“I look forward to working with you the rest of the semester,” Long said.
GSS also discussed preparations for the upcoming election season, which included allocating $200 from its budget to compensate the Board of Elections chairperson.
“Hopefully we can have an awesome election this year, multiple debates, good news coverage,” said Ed Gaither, GSS vice president for finance.
“Elections are something you want done right and you want done well,” said Andrea Harless, GSS vice president for communication. “If we want it done right and we want someone to take it seriously, you have to compensate someone.”
GSS President Joel Newby urged any potential applicants to contact GSS’ executive board members for more information.
“My job and the three other executive jobs are very complex, but amazingly simple at the same time,” Newby said. “I would invite you to come speak to any of us so we can talk about what the job entails. It is a great experience; the greatest experience I’ve had at this school.”
Applications for GSS executive board positions will be made available later this week.
