2024 Election:

Demi Lovato publicly apologizes to frozen yogurt shop; Sen. Brown co-sponsors federal hazing bill

Today is Wednesday, April 21, 2021. Here’s what you need to know:

Actress and pop star Demi Lovato posted a video criticizing The Bigg Chill frozen yogurt shop in Los Angeles. Lovato struggles with body image and an eating disorder and said she believes the yogurt shop is a “diet culture vulture” because it promotes sugar-free cookies and “other diet foods.”

Lovato turned to her verified Instagram account to slam the shop. She claimed she is outspoken about things she believes in and made it clear she is not afraid to call out companies and brands that enable disordered eating.

The Bigg Chill responded to Lovato’s anger on its Instagram Story. The posts explained the shop carried products to cater to people’s dietary needs. Several others called out Lovato for being unfair to the small business.

“I’m sorry that I got the messaging wrong. I’m sorry that I may have disappointed some people,” Lovato said in a public apology. “But I’m not coming after a small business as someone with a lot of followers. That’s not what I’m doing.”
