Dedrick Peterson, 31, was arrested Tuesday in Ann Arbor, Michigan after reportedly raping someone during Ohio University's Homecoming Weekend last year.
Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn announced the arrest in a release Thursday morning. His sexual assault response team travelled to Ann Arbor to interview Peterson.
After several hours of interviewing, local law enforcement arrested Peterson, according to the release. He is being held in the Washtenaw County Jail, where he awaits his transfer to Athens County next week.
The arrest came after an investigation from the Athens Police Department. Peterson is charged with a count of rape and a charge of sexual battery.
OU's 2013 Homecoming Weekend has already been the subject of controversy, as a woman and man were involved in a public sex act near a street corner on Court Street early one morning.
An Athens County Grand Jury declined to recommend charges related to the public sex act, though the incident led to an outpouring of opposition to a culture on campus that some say fosters sexual assault.
