After being in the position for more than two years, Margaret Kennedy-Dygas has resigned as the dean of the OU College of Fine Arts.
Margaret Kennedy-Dygas has resigned as the dean of the Ohio University College of Fine Arts.
In an email sent to College of Fine Arts faculty, staff and students, Pam Benoit, the executive vice president and provost, said she received Kennedy-Dygas’ resignation late Thursday afternoon, effective immediately. The email cites Kennedy-Dygas’ “personal decision to pursue other interests.”
“We thank her for her service to the college,” Benoit said in the email.
Kennedy-Dygas had been in the position since May 20, 2013. Previously, she had been the associate dean of the College of the Arts at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, according to a previous Post report.
Kennedy-Dygas will return in fall of 2016 as a tenured professor of music, Benoit said.
“We will prepare for and conduct a national search to determine a permanent dean for the College of Fine Arts beginning in Fall 2016,” Benoit said in the email.
Elizabeth Sayrs, the dean of University College and vice provost of undergraduate education, will serve as interim dean of the College of Fine Arts. Benoit said Sayrs “will not be a candidate for the permanent position.”
Peter Mather, an associate professor of counseling and higher education, will become interim dean of University College and vice provost of undergraduate education.
“I thank both of them for their willingness to take on these responsibilities,” Benoit said in the email.
