Ohio goalie Brian Gallagher showed signs this past weekend of returning to the form he displayed in front of the goal much of last season.
So did the rest of the Ohio hockey team's defense.
Gallagher, a Kent native, recorded two shutouts as Ohio (4-3) beat intrastate rival Kent State, 6-0, Friday and 3-0 Saturday in Kent State Ice Arena.
It's always a big game for him to go home and we're glad to see him get two wins there his senior year
Ohio coach Dan Morris said.
Gallagher, however, had plenty of help in holding the Golden Flashes scoreless. After starting the season slowly, Ohio's defense has not allowed a goal in more than 200 minutes.
It looks kind of good to get two shutouts but it's not all to my credit Gallagher said. We allowed (24) shots the entire weekend. My credit goes to the defense.
Ohio defenseman Joe Branco, who scored two goals and added an assist in Friday's win, said the team's defense has played with much more composure as of late.
In the beginning of the season we were just running around too much
he said. We needed to settle down in our defensive zone
and I think we did that this weekend.
