Ohio announced major 2024 coaching changes via an article on the team's website published early Tuesday afternoon. Ohio's staffing changes follow the departure of former defensive coordinator Spence Nowinski in early April.
The biggest news on Tuesday is arguably the hiring of Kurt Mattix as the team's defensive ends coach. Mattix previously served as defensive coordinator at San Diego State for four seasons. Mattix brings experience to the Bobcat coaching staff after holding various positions at schools such as Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, Ball State and Valparaiso.
Former safeties coach John Hauser will replace Nowinski as defensive coordinator. Ohio ultimately chose the route of an in-house hire after Nowinski's departure late in the spring.
Additionally, Tremayne Scott will now oversee the defensive line and associate head coach Brian Smith will take over playcalling duties on offense.
