Hockey: instant reaction to Ohio's 5-2 loss to Adrian College

After playing a solid two periods of hockey, things seemed to fall apart for the Bobcats.

Ohio (1-6) lost to Adrian College 5-2 at Bird Arena Friday night, following a dominant third period by the Bulldogs (9-1).

Here are a few instant reactions to Ohio’s defeat:

Third Period Slump

After a rather even first period of hockey, the Bobcats looked to be in control of the game, with an Andrew Sacca goal to make it a 2-1 game late in the second period.

When they hit the ice for the third period, the Bobcats looked caught off guard. Going on the penalty kill almost immediately to start off the period, Adrian tied the game, and Ohio never recovered. The Bulldogs outplayed Ohio the rest of the game.

Missed chances on the power play

The Bobcats had three power play opportunities on Friday night and did not capitalize on any of them.

Not only that, but they didn’t get a single shot on net for two of the three. These missed opportunities would haunt the Bobcats as they fell behind in the third period.

Turnovers

Two of Adrian’s goals resulted from Ohio turnovers near their own blueline.

Ohio has consistently held their ground in low scoring games all year, but turnovers only create more scoring chances for the opposing team.

Ohio travels to Adrian, MI to take on the Bulldogs tomorrow night. These things all proved costly tonight, and we will see what gets adjusted for game two.
