Ohio University President McDavis wins 'Business Person of the Year' award from Dublin Chamber of Commerce

The award is presented to someone who has positively contributed to Dublin’s business community.

Ohio University President Roderick McDavis was awarded the 2016 Business Person of the Year Award by the Dublin Chamber of Commerce board of directors Wednesday.

The award is presented to someone who has positively contributed to Dublin’s business community, according to a university news release.

“President McDavis was instrumental in bringing (OU's) Dublin Campus to the area, which has helped to create jobs and promote medical and technological development within Dublin,” the news release reads.

The Dublin campus currently offers programs of the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and the College of Health Sciences and Professions, according to the release.

“The impact of Ohio University’s teaching, research, and service continues to expand far beyond Athens, and we are honored and humbled to receive such a warm welcome in Dublin,” McDavis said in the release. “We are very proud of the collaborative learning that is already taking place on the Dublin Campus and look forward to many years of partnership between our university and the Dublin community.”

OU purchased the campus property for $11 million in 2012, and OU-HCOM’s Dublin campus opened there in August of 2014, according to a previous Post report.

OU-HCOM’s first class of students studying in Dublin is expected to graduate in 2018. That year, the school is expected to reach a $26.4 million annual economic impact, create 145 jobs and $1 million in tax revenue, according to the release.

Dana McDaniel, the Dublin city manager, said in the release that he “applauds” the chamber in choosing McDavis.

“The vision and foresight of Ohio University, under the leadership of President McDavis, to locate its College of Health Sciences and Professions and the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Dublin has immensely benefited the City,” McDaniel said in the release.
