Only about 15 people gathered Wednesday evening to discuss the pending health care changes and how they might affect college students.
The presentation, called “Obamacare Campus Crisis: How Obamacare is fooling Ohio’s college students,” was organized by Americans for Prosperity, a self-described “non-profit issue advocacy organization.”
The presentation was organized in conjunction with the Benjamin Rush Institute, a group that focuses on health policy and how it relates to jobs in the medical field.
In Porter 103, Molly Mottram spoke about how the Affordable Care Act is harming the economic situations of college students across the country.
“We fight for lower economic prosperity,” said Mottram, who is the field coordinator for southwest Ohio Americans for Prosperity.
The organization is active in 38 states.
“We like to hold events that open discussion,” said Morgan Kohls, a sophomore studying pre med biology and member of Benjamin Rush Institute. “(The program) was really geared towards a universal group of students.”
Justin Kendrick, Affordable Care Act navigator for Southeast Ohio, helps explain the legislation to Athens residents.
“I know it’s a very big issue, and for the people in these programs, it’s the sort of thing that can help them get back on their feet, especially in the hard times that we’ve experienced recently with the recession,” he said in a previous Post article.
