Peyton White could be on the cusp of his second-straight collegiate victory.
Junior golfer Peyton White is on fire.
Not literally, but after winning the Hoosier Invitational and earning Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week last week, White sits in a tie for third at the Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational after two rounds of play Monday.
There are 89 golfers in the field.
He shot 2-under par in round one and 1-over par in round two for a 1-under on the day. Through 36 holes, he has eight birdies.
White could be on the cusp of his second-straight win and his second ever collegiate win.
Coach Bob Cooley has been talking about the need for a strong spring for a Mid-American Conference title push, and it seems as if his words have been happening.
If White can keep up the consistency, and improvements are made throughout the next two tournaments, Ohio can have a shot at winning the MAC Championship.
As a team, Ohio sits in 10th place out of 17 teams. The Bobcats shot a two round score of 587.
The invitational is taking place at the Greenbrier’s famed Old White TPC Course, the site of the PGA stop, the Greenbrier Classic.
Captain Mike Engelman is in a tie for 17th, shooting 4-over par throughout the 36 holes. He shot 1-over par in round one and 3-over in round two.
Ty Herriott sits in a tie for 57th, while Grant Engel is in a tie for 67th. The two combined for one eagle, seven birdies, 18 bogeys and three double bogeys.
Herriott had a two-round score of 151. Engel had a two-round score of 153.
Tom Nettles is in 86th place through 36 holes, shooting 8-over in round one and 13-over in round two.
Nettles is in substitute of the regular Ben Sattler, who will be competing later this week at the Ball State Invitational. Ohio is not sending the same five to that tournament due to time out of school.
Ohio will resume play Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in a shotgun start.
