The OHIO Fit Club offers a new workout group for little cost.
Even those without a trusty spotter now have the opportunity to work with a group and a personal trainer under a new customizable fitness program at Ohio University.
The OHIO Fit Club offers a 12-week workout program for a one-time $50 deposit. The program, new to spring semester, includes a fitness assessment, a custom workout plan and meetings with a personal trainer.
“This club is perfect for people who are motivated to make a change but need some guidance on how to work out properly and would like structured workouts,” Personal Training Student Manager Ryan Tropf said in an email.
Though the club’s first meeting was held Feb. 1, students can still sign up for the program throughout the semester.
The program could be a deal for students who are trying to keep their New Year’s Resolution alive on a budget.
“Meeting with a personal trainer three times a week for 12 weeks would, on average, cost over $600,” said Joe Schillero, assistant director of fitness for Campus Recreation.
So far, the group has 10 participants spread throughout four groups, but the number is growing, Schillero said.
In each group there are typically two to 12 participants, with each group having its own physical trainer, Schillero said.

The classes will be offered in various rooms within Ping Center, with some being in either meeting rooms or personal training rooms.
Campus Recreation and Fitness also offers a separate one-on-one physical training program that differs from the newly made Ohio Fit Club.
“We have a very well-utilized personal training program here, but we anticipate OHIO Fit Club continuing to grow alongside our (physical training) program because of its affordability and convenience,” Schillero said. “We just started this program this semester, and we anticipate it continuing to grow not only as the semester goes on but also into next year, and we expand the program to reach different groups.”
The club’s trainers help participants plan their own workouts ahead of time.
“Once everyone feels comfortable with the workouts for the week, participants are on their own to complete the workouts,” Tropf said.
