We the People: Amber Rose battles the sexual double standard in new video

Amber Rose struts her sexuality in a video demonstrating the walk of no shame after a night out.

In a recent video published by FunnyorDie, Amber Rose, dressed in a tight-fitting black dress (most likely couture), is seen sauntering out of a house and beginning a walk notoriously referred to as the “walk of shame.”

However, this stroll completely lacked shame or any self-hatred. The model, actress, ex-stripper, recording artist, fashion designer and mother of Sebastian Khalifa, completely owned her walk after a night full of casual sex … creating the title “walk of no shame.”

As she made her way back home, there were no insults, like “slut” or “whore” being thrown at her. Instead, each passerby either congratulated her or was jealous that she was getting laid.

“Nothing I haven’t done before,” an elderly woman playing chess with her significant other, said.

It’s great that the script completely turned the table with the dialogue: A construction worker, a career that seems to commonly include catcalling, expressed his respect for Rose, stating that everyone can agree that sex is fun.

This change in viewpoint is needed … typically women are put into two categories: slut or prude. They can either be having too much sex (is that even a thing?) or not enough. There is no in-between, and either one comes with insults and a forced sense of shame.

Now when it comes to men, too much sex is not enough. They are praised for having casual sex and pressured to have more of it. The only shame they receive is if their body count is in single digits.

This disgusting double standard was kicked down by Rose and the producer of the video. Her statement is extremely important, especially for mothers who feel that expressing their sexuality must stop after giving birth or for college students thinking their walks home after a night out are shameful.

“There is unbelievable power in ownership, and women should own their sexuality … You can be a businesswoman, a mother, an artist and a feminist — whatever you want to be — and still be a sexual being. It’s not mutually exclusive,” said Beyonce, an artist whose most sexual album was released after the birth of her first child.

Both Rose and Beyonce’s statements are this: women can be what they want to be, whether it’s a sex fiend or a person who wants to wait until marriage. Their choice should not in any way make them feel ashamed, “impure,” or even “more pure” than others.

So before shaming a girl for making the trip back to her apartment or dorm with her heels, wedges, flip flops or Converse in hand, just think: She’s the one having sex, and then give her a mental applause and leave ignorant shaming to the guys not getting laid.
