Interactions with McDavis appreciated

Post editors have concluded that students are glad to have any opportunity to interact with President McDavis around campus

As part of our daily “Post Streetview” feature, we asked students earlier this week if they have ever interacted with Ohio University President Roderick McDavis. Based on the students’ responses, two things became clear:

Students have positive thoughts about McDavis, and those who interacted with him appreciated the opportunity.

“When he was at The Convocation Center, he spoke there, and that was really, really cool,” Natalie Clar, a freshman studying business, said.

“Yeah, once last year, he asked me how my day was going,” Karen Wong, a sophomore studying biology, said.

“I’ve never had an experience personally with him, but I saw him at freshman orientation,” Jake Stefunek, an undecided freshman, said. “I’d like to meet him in person at some point.”

Although McDavis has made his “external,” off-campus presence a priority in recent years, it’s clear that even his smallest interactions with students can be meaningful.

Basically, you’re going to feel important when engaged with the university’s president — whether that be a greeting in passing or in a scheduled sit-down meeting.

When he’s in Athens, we would like to see McDavis spending more time interacting with students, both on and off the official record. The next time we ask students the question that ran in Wednesday’s paper, we hope to hear more personal stories about how they’ve interacted with OU’s president.

To start, McDavis: drinks tonight at The Smiling Skull?
