Today is Monday, Sept. 10, 2018. Here’s what you need to know:
Good morning,
The Cleveland Browns didn’t lose a game for the first time in more than a year, but the team also didn’t win.
The season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers ended 21-21 after both teams failed to make field goals in overtime.
The Browns came close to field-goal range in regulation time until quarterback Tyrod Taylor threw an interception with 23 seconds to go. Steelers kicker Chris Boswell missed the first field goal in overtime. After a punt by the Browns and a fumble by the Steelers quarterback, the Browns found themselves in field-goal range again. But with 13 seconds left in the game, Zane Gonzalez’s kick for the Browns was blocked by the Steelers, sealing the final score.
The game marks the first season opener tie since the Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins tied in 1971 and is the eighth tie in NFL history. The last time the Steelers tied a game was in 2002 against the Atlanta Falcons; the last time the Browns tied was 1989 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The game also ends the Browns' 17-game losing streak but — until the team wins — Cleveland will still be waiting for free Bud Light.
