Editorial: Semester's final 'Post' presents: General Fee breakdown graphic

It’s finally the last week of classes, which means today is the last day you’ll see The Post in print for a while.

But we’ve saved some of our best stuff for last.

On the front page today, you’ll see this year’s breakdown of the 2013-14 General Fee. This is the mandatory annual fee every Ohio University student pays as part of the undergraduate tuition. This academic year, that fee was $1,256. Have you ever wondered where that money of yours goes? We’ve got it covered.

The largest chunk goes to Student Affairs, which, by the way, helps fund The Post via our business manager’s salary. You’ll also see how much you’re paying to fund the Athletics budget, the Walter Fieldhouse construction and the university’s music licensing fee. Yeah, that’s a thing.

Hold on to our front-page graphic, cut it out, hang it up. It’s a beauty, and it’ll impress mom and dad when they ask you where their money goes every semester (Hint: It’s probably best you don’t let them know about the extra hundred you set aside for liquor pitchers and pizza slices on Wednesdays.)

The Post won’t be on newsstands for the next couple months, but we will continue to publish our work online throughout the summer. And though few of you will be attending Bobcat Student Orientation, we will print a special edition for the incoming freshman, telling them about the things that make Athens near and dear to our hearts.

By the time many of you are back on campus for the fall, our Welcome Back issue will be on newsstands, updating you on what went on while you were away and what you have to look forward to during another term in Athens.

So remember, between now and then you can check up on the town you love most by visiting our website. Our staff will be spread throughout the country working internships everywhere from New York to North Carolina and San Antonio, but we’ll continue to work diligently to keep you updated on Athens news. And we’ll be back full force again in the fall, bringing you a daily newspaper and new website that will better serve your news needs.

It’s been a great year here at Ohio University, and we’re sad to see it come to a close. But summer’s on the horizon and finals are right around the corner.

So good luck with your exams, fellow Bobcats, and be safe wherever you call home this summer.
