UPDATE 3:15 p.m.: The new pope is Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio from Argentina, according to CNN. He chose the name Pope Francis.
With just two days in the conclave, the Roman Catholic cardinals have chosen a successor for Pope Benedict XVI, who announced his resignation in February.
The announcement was heralded with white smoke erupting from the Sistine Chapel, after black smoke signaled the lack of decision several times before.
The name of the new pope has not yet been announced.
