Throwback Thursday: Greek life, '80s style

As this year’s Greek Week wraps up, our Throwback Thursday takes us back to another important event for greek life organizations on campuses throughout the country: rush week.

This particular moment, captured by staff photographer D. R. Huey, was featured on the front page of the Sept. 23, 1985, issue of The Post. It was paired with a story titled “Sororities satisfy higher rush quotas.” Here’s the opening paragraph of that story, courtesy of staff writer Joe Capozzi:

“More than 700 students rushing OU’s 11 fraternities and eight sororities last week made this year’s rush one of the most successful at OU since the 1950s, greek organization leaders said.”

Retroactive congratulations are in order for the 1985 greek life crowd, and we extend a current one to the 31 greek organizations on campus today for their more-than-successful philanthropic efforts and some seriously cool city-themed banners.

Happy Greek Week, y’all.
