Lotsa Stone Fired Pizza on Court Street closed Saturday after not being able to sustain its margins over the summer.
The eight other locations, which are all located in college towns, don’t have the same problems with bringing people in as Athens had, Anthony DiGangi, chief operating officer of the company, said.
The lack of students in the summer plays a part, but the company knew about that before opening in Athens, DiGangi said.
Athens doesn’t have as many events in the summer that bring residents to Court Street as the other locations, DiGangi said. When the city does host something, they bring food vendors, which hurts business.
“We really did like being part of the community,” DiGangi said. “It is such a beautiful campus.”
