Ohio guard Cece Hooks (No. 1) analyzes the court before making a pass in a match against Kent State University at the Convocation Center on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021.

Women's Basketball: Cece Hooks becomes Mid-American Conference all-time leading scorer

Cece Hooks’ name is all over Ohio’s record books. She is the all-time leader in steals, field goals and points. She’s also one of two Ohio players to score 2,000 points for the program during her career.

Now, she’s the all-time leading scorer in the Mid-American Conference.

Hooks broke the record Saturday when she reached 2,510 points with 1:44 left in the third quarter. The previous record of 2,509 was set by Toldeo’s Kim Knuth in 1999.

The senior returned for her fifth season in Athens with a reputation. Hooks is the defending MAC Player of the Year, three-time MAC Defensive Player of the Year and was MAC Freshman of the Year in the 2017-18 season.

Hooks lives up to her accolades. She leads the Bobcats this season in field goals made, free throws made, points, rebounds and steals. There’s no doubt that when Hooks has the ball, something good will happen.

There’s nothing that Hooks can’t do on the court. She has a tight grasp on the fundamentals and adds a bit of flair with her own style. Hooks knows how to keep the Bobcats afloat.

However, there’s one accolade she doesn't have yet — a MAC Championship. The Bobcats stand in the middle of the conference standings right now, due to cancelations. If the Bobcats catch up to the rest of the MAC, there’s no telling what they can’t do. Especially when they have Hooks.
