Police Blotter: Police responding to halloween antics

Halloween weekend is like the Super Bowl for local police departments.

Halloween weekend is like the Super Bowl for local police departments.

Ohio University police officers issued 29 alcohol related citations this week, with the bulk coming this past weekend, according to a release. Athens police arrested 55 partygoers during Halloween weekend — 26 of which were OU students.

Despite numerous portable toilets set up throughout town, OUPD officers cited three individuals for public urination.

Six of the citations written by OUPD were drug related, including one stemming from a report early Sunday morning of a male under the influence of LSD — commonly referred to as acid — in Martzolff House. The individual was transported to OhioHealth O’Bleness Memorial Hospital by Athens County Emergency Medical Services.

One of the more strange incidents from the weekend occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday, when an OUPD officer spotted a male subject located in OU Lot 4 — located directly next to the campus police station at Scott Quad. The man was leaning up against a vehicle with his pants unzipped and an odor of alcohol lingering on his breath. When the officer asked the man how much he had to drink, he responded, “too much.” He also said he drank, “five beers really fast.”

He then explained how he was looking for his friends and he had asked someone for help but they refused. He then added, “I should have punched him in the head,” according to the release.

He was ultimately placed under arrest for underage consumption and public intoxication.

During the early morning hours Saturday, a cell phone was reported stolen at the top of Morton Hill. The student who filed the report explained the incident and said three males approached him and asked to borrow his phone to make a call. When the victim handed over the phone, the three subjects took off running down Morton Hill.

The victim chased the group, but was unable to catch up. His phone, a black iPhone 5S, was valued at around $200, according to the report.

There are no leads or suspects at this time, however, the matter is still under investigation.

This past Wednesday, a customer had some problems with a fire extinguisher in the Buffalo Wild Wings bathroom, 23 W. Union St.

Amanda Russell, a manager at Buffalo Wild Wings, said a male in his mid-40s sprayed a fire extinguisher in the men’s bathroom. According to the Athens Police Department report, the male said he found the extinguisher in the bathroom and then proceeded to pick it up. It was at that point the extinguisher went off without any pressure applied on the handle.

The man left the bar immediately after the incident.
