Brice Bible: Former chief information officer

Ohio University projects it will begin its search for a new chief information officer in March

After the departure of Ohio University’s former chief information officer, Brice Bible, university officials say they have not begun the process to find a permanent replacement for the position.

Bible left OU in November to become the vice president and chief information officer at the University at Buffalo, according to a previous Post article.

Duane Starkey, who served as Bible’s assistant chief information officer, assumed the duties of interim chief information officer July 22 but was officially given the position Nov. 17, the day before Bible’s position in Buffalo became effective.

“Essentially, I had a pretty good understanding of the CIO function already,” Starkey said.

Bible made $228,929 as CIO this academic year. Starkey, who is unsure how long he’ll be in the position, used to make $109,988. He now makes $125,234 in the interim capacity.

“Duane has not been an interim caretaker. He is a very active part of the IT leadership team,” Joseph Lalley, senior associate vice president of technologies and administrative services, said in an email.

The university projects it will launch a national search for the position by early March, said Sean O’Malley, OU’s IT communications manager.

“Lalley is in the process of meeting with deans and administrative unit heads to better understand the qualities they want the new CIO to possess to position OIT to better meet the academic, research and administrative needs of the university,” O’Malley said in an email.

Searches for university positions are typically costly, but administrators are unsure how much the fee will be in the end.

“(OU) will continue to assess leadership structure going forward as we better understand the new IT governance model and RCM implementation,” Stephen Golding, vice president for Finance and Administration, said in an email.
