Athens City Council will vote on an ordinance Monday night that would allow Athens Mayor Steve Patterson to apply for a grant through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, to address stormwater pollution in the city.
The $100,000 grant would be used for stream water improvements or improvements on Stimson Avenue. The city would also enter into an agreement with the Ohio EPA.
“The city would commit 40 percent of match grant funds,” Councilman Kent Butler, D-1st Ward, said.
Members will also vote on street closures for the International Street Fair on April 7. The proposed closure is East Union Street between Court Street and University Terrace.
Members will discuss another grant that allows Patterson to apply for a grant through the Ohio Development Services Agency for the 2018 program year of the Community Housing Impact and Preservation Program, or CHIP.
CHIP provides grants to communities for housing-related activities, according to a previous Post report.
The city would also enter into an agreement with the Athens County Commissioners.
Members will also discuss appointments to the Arts, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. The board consists of seven members appointed by Athens City Council and the mayor, and it advises the city in matters relating to city recreation. Two terms ended this February.
