Suspicious note citing violent act found in an Ohio University restroom

A suspicious note was discovered in a public restroom, according to a campus-wide email sent Wednesday by OUPD Chief Andrew Powers.

A suspicious note mentioning a violent act was found in a public restroom on Ohio University’s campus, according to a campus-wide email sent Wednesday by Ohio University Police Department Chief Andrew Powers.

The note was dated Nov. 18 and didn’t specify a location, individual or group of people. OUPD is investigating the origins of the note, and Powers said the threat tied to the note is low at this time.

The note didn’t contain a specific threat against OU, but Powers said in the email that employees and students should be attentive.

Powers asked people to contact OUPD at 740-593-1911 if they see something suspicious on campus.

“As world events progress, security surrounding events on campus will likely be heightened in the interest of public and campus safety,” Powers said in the email. “For example, if you attended last night’s football game, you may have noticed increased police presence and additional safety measures.”

The university and OUPD could not provide any additional information about the investigation as of press time.
