Ohio University Police are investigating "three small exposions" on South Green that went off late Thursday night. There were no injuries reported, authorities said.
The explosions, which occured near Brown and MacKinnon halls, "appear to be the result of 'Works bombs,' which are homemade devices made by mixing drain cleaner with other household products in a plastic bottle," OUPD Chief Andrew Powers said in a statement to The Post.
"The resulting chemical reaction gives off a gas, which builds up pressure in the sealed bottle until the device explodes," Powers said. "Due to the caustic nature of drain cleaner, these devices can cause serious injury if they explode close to a person."
Powers said he could not comment any further at this time. The incident is still under investigation by OUPD.
