Fourth rape reported to Ohio University Police Department

The Ohio University Police Department responded to the incident, and then forwarded it to APD because the alleged crime took place off of campus. That is the 15th sex-related crime OUPD has responded to this Fall Semester, and the fourth rape.

The Athens Police Department responded to a report of alleged rape Nov. 12.

The Ohio University Police Department responded to the incident, and then forwarded it to APD because the alleged crime took place off campus. That is the 15th sex-related crime OUPD has responded to this Fall Semester, and the fourth rape.

According to the original report from OUPD, officers responded to Sargent Hall on West Green because a female said she had been sexually assaulted off campus earlier that night.

The first rape reported to OUPD allegedly took place in a South Green dorm Sept. 5, according to OUPD records. The report did not specify which dorm building the incident took place in.

OUPD responded to an alleged rape at O’Bleness House on South Green Sept. 14. The female reported unwanted sexual contact with a male acquaintance, according to OUPD records.

On Sept. 26, a female reported an alleged rape to OUPD that occurred in Bromley Hall. The female reported to OUPD that she had received unwanted sexual conduct from a male acquaintance. The report indicated that alcohol may have been involved.

John Hyland was arrested for that rape on Oct. 4, and was due to appear in the Athens County Municipal Court Oct. 27. Hyland, a Rocky River resident, faced one charge of rape, which is a first-degree felony with a maximum sentence of 11 years in prison.

Hyland never appeared in court because his case was dismissed due to “criminal procedure,” according to a previous Post report.
