After all the political advertisements, social media rants and mudslinging, it is finally Election Day in Athens.
Voters will have the 13-hour window between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. to cast their ballots. As long as they are in line by 7:30 p.m., they will be guaranteed the opportunity to vote.
Those who plan to vote will need one of the following forms of valid identification: a driver’s license, military ID, current utility bill, bank statement or government check, according to a release from Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted.
Those who plan on voting must have some proof of residency matching the address at which they are registered to vote. Student IDs will not be accepted at the polls as a valid form of identification.
If a student changed residence halls since last registering to vote, that person must cast a provisional ballot in Baker University Center or at the precinct location of his or her new address.
Since Sunday, more than 800 voters cast their early voting ballots at Athens County Board of Elections, Director Debbie Quivey said.
Despite the lines, the longest reported wait time to cast an early ballot was just more than 30 minutes, she added.
“We’ve had so many other people working in our office,” Quivey said. “We have an excellent team of full- and part-time employees that have helped us out.”
