Men's Golf: Bobcats wrap up regular season in Rutherford Intercollegiate

For four Bobcat seniors, Saturday and Sunday in the Rutherford Intercollegiate represents the last regular-season tournament of their college careers.

For co-captains Peyton White and Ty Herriott, it marks the end of a journey.

“It’s going to be emotional for sure. (I’m) not thrilled that it’s my last one to say the least,” Herriott said.

The tournament, hosted by Penn State, will also help prepare Ohio for the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

The greens at the course have bentgrass, something the course for the MAC Tournament will have and something the Bobcats haven’t seen this year.

“Everyone is just going to be able to get a little bit more comfortable with the style of golf we’re going to be playing in the MAC (tournament),” Herriott said.

To go along with a style of green that Ohio hasn’t seen much of and that many of its golfers aren't accustomed to, another problem the Bobcats have to solve is putting.

“Our problem all year has been putting,” coach Bob Cooley said. “The big problem is our greens aren’t big enough around here.”

Another MAC team will play at the tournament, allowing the Bobcats to see where they stand against their conference competition.

“It’s whoever gets hot with their fourth and fifth men,” Cooley said.

The regular season will to a close and with that the college careers of some Bobcats, so it is a time to reflect.

“It’s weird to think it's one of our last (tournaments),” White said. “It feels like we were freshman just the other day.”
