The Pest: OU pays to host lacrosse tournament

Sensing a lucrative business opportunity, Kevin Tweedledoop, a freshman studying business, decided to start his own post-season lacrosse tournament and charge the university a pretty penny for the honor and prestige of hosting the KevinTweedledoop.com National Tournament.

Ohio Athletics will voluntarily pay $50,000 from the General Fee per game, a fee which athletics director Johnny Benched said was “totally fair and justifiable.”

“Students love it when our teams earn tournament play, even if they’ve never heard of the tournament before,” Benched said. “It’s a tremendous honor to have the opportunity to play in the KyleTweetdeck.com Tournament. Or whatever it’s called.”

In the first round, Ohio will face off against New Hampshire Central Community College, which sources confirmed Monday did, in fact, have a lacrosse team.

Benched said the $50,000 wasn’t a problem because Athletics sets aside an enormous amount of student fee money each year in its Just In Case Something Comes Up Fund. He also explained that Athletics will earn most of that money back through advertising and ticket sales.

“Advertisers are lining up around the block to pay for exposure in the KarlTwinkiedipper.com Tournament,” Benched said. “And students will turn out in droves to watch the high-stakes result of the Bobcats playing an unknown team we’ve never played before and never will again.”

When The Pest pointed out that the tournament games were not televised and that students don’t pay for tickets, Benched said, “Oh. Well, whatever, it’s not my money.”
