While under the influence of cocaine, an Athen man shot his wife in both legs.
An Athens woman was shot in both legs on Thursday by her husband, who was under the influence of cocaine.
According to a news release from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, the man admitted to handling a 9mm handgun, and said he accidentally shot his wife.
A bullet entered one of the woman’s leg, and grazed the other leg. She was taken to Doctors Hospital in Nelsonville, and later transported to Columbus for further treatment, according to the news release.
Their two children, who were in the house during the incident, did not see the shooting and were placed in the care of other family members.
The man told the deputies that he’s been on cocaine for the past six months as well as on a doctor’s prescription for Suboxone.
He said if he had not been on cocaine, his judgement during the situation would have been different, and the shooting would not have happened.
The home contained five canines that were removed from the home by the dog warden.
