Ohio (25-8) split the Tuesday double header with Mid-American Conference rival Kent State (14-19) in Kent. Ohio won the first game 6-0 before falling 7-1 in the second game.
In game one, Savannah Jo Dorsey threw a complete shutout, walking two and striking out 15. Maddy Grimm picked up Kent State’s only two hits off of Dorsey in the game.
Dorsey picked up her 1,000 career strikeout in the game.
Before Dorsey even took the field the Bobcats gave her the lead when Morgan Geno singled home Alex Day in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
Geno finished the game 2-for-3 with a RBI. Mikayla Cooper also had a big game for the Bobcats, she went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
In game two, Danielle Stiene picked up the loss after giving up two runs on two hits over 1 2/3 innings pitched.
Dorsey returned to the circle in relief of Stiene, but did not find the same success she had in game one. She threw 4 1/3 innings allowing five runs on six hits with nine strikeouts.
Grimm had another big game for the Golden Flashes’ offense. She went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs.
Also having a big game both in the circle and in the batter’s box was Ronnie Landines. She picked up the victory in the circle after throwing a complete game only allowing one run on six hits while striking out five. At the plate, Landines went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.
Geno was responsible for Ohio’s only run when she homered in the fourth inning. The two teams combined to hit six home runs in game two.
Ohio is 6-2 and Kent State is 4-4 in MAC after the doubleheader.
Ohio will return to action Friday at Ohio Softball Field to take on Ball State at 3 p.m.
