In between the court cases it sees in Athens County Common Pleas Court each week, Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn’s office plans to donate computers to local school districts in the area.
Blackburn made an official announcement Tuesday that his office plans to donate a total of seven laptops among the Nelsonville-York, Trimble, Federal Hocking and Alexander school districts, according to a news release from his office.
It was not immediately clear when the schools will receive the new equipment.
The Athens County Commissioners approved Blackburn’s request to surplus the computers and donate them to local schools. The computers were originally purchased with “the forfeiture money from the County Prosecutor’s law enforcement trust fund,” according to the release.
“I am happy we can conclude our use of these systems and they are able to benefit the youth in our community by providing them with these tools for educational purposes,” he said in the release.
He could not be reached for comment by press time regarding the exact amount of money that was used to purchase the laptops.
