Every Grey’s Anatomy episode has been named after a song — until Thursday’s mid-season premiere when it was the number for the domestic abuse hotline. The episode titled “1-800-799-7233” tackled the topic of domestic abuse when Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington)’s ex-husband showed up at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
Paul Stadler (Matthew Morrison) popped in to the hospital at the end of the mid-season finale. He arrived with his new fiance Jenny, played by One Tree Hill alum Bethany Joy Lenz. Paul said the two of them were happy when Jo sent the divorce papers. It was also revealed Jo was a student of Paul’s when she was at university. He claims he helped her out of a bad situation, but Jo said he isn’t trustworthy.
“He takes the truth and twists the truth to fit his own story,” Jo said.
When Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) see him in their respective operation rooms, the two of them band together to help Jo out, but Jo wants to help one other person. She approaches Jenny and talks to her about his ways and says she can always talk to her about Paul and she will help her out of it. But Paul catches on and Jo is left wondering what’s going to happen to her.
“I wish he was dead,” Jo tells Alex.
Oh, no. That’s not good. Alex has a history of violence and standing up for those he loves. This isn’t going to go well.
And in fact, the episode ends with Paul in the emergency room after a hit-and-run car accident. There is only one logical person responsible: Alex.
“What did you do?” Meredith said.
There’s no telling what’s going to happen next, but it would be a shame if Chambers were to leave the show if his character goes to jail.
