Softball: Dorsey wins MAC Pitcher of the Year award

Ohio pitcher, Savannah Jo Dorsey, was named Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Year on Tuesday.

This time last year, Ohio pitcher Savannah Jo Dorsey struggled watching her teammates grind through a season of unfulfilled expectations. Dorsey, who was out with a back injury, couldn't relieve Ohio from floundering a year removed from a Mid-American Conference title.

This season, Dorsey has returned in dominating fashion, leading Ohio to its fourth 30-win season in program history. Dorsey capped off her remarkable regular season in 2016 by capturing this season's Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Year award, the conference announced Tuesday.

Sporting a 21-11 record, 1.66 earned run average and a 294:72 strikeout-to-walk-ratio, Dorsey cemented her status as arguably Ohio’s greatest pitcher of program history. She broke multiple school records this season, including becoming the all time leader in career strikeouts and wins.

Her 294 strikeouts this season ranked second in the country, demonstrating how uniquely dominant she was in her award winning campaign.
