With old projects like the non-union personnel fringe benefits package review potentially under wraps, Athens City Council looks to take on new tasks before the end of the year.
On top of its usual committee meetings, Athens City Council will have a special session for passing legislation at its meeting Monday night.
Councilman Jeff Risner, D-2nd Ward, said he will propose amendments to the city's non-union personnel fringe benefits package ordinance at the meeting.
"The auditor was concerned about wording, so I had (Athens City Law Director Lisa Eliason) and the law director's office look over (it)," Risner said.
The ordinance, which will affect vacation accrual for city employees, was heavily discussed at last Monday's meeting. Athens City Auditor Kathy Hecht said the ordinance contained sections that directly contradicted each other.
Risner said the amendments at Monday's special session will be primarily focused on small changes.
"I'm hoping it'll be less confusing this time around," he said.
Risner has also introduced two ordinances to provide the issuance of $100,000 and $550,000 for the city's new firetruck and its wastewater treatment plant, respectively.
Risner said city council members have been discussing these amounts and said he believes it's time to pay off the loans the city took out to complete the projects.
