Streaming giant Netflix is set to release an episode of the critically acclaimed Black Mirror that’ll have a bit of a twist.
The experimental choose-your-own-adventure episode will be part of Black Mirror’s fifth season, which will arrive in December, according to TechCrunch. Though the show is always dystopian sci-fi themed, the details of the episode have been kept under wraps.
This isn’t the first time Netflix has tried interactive TV, but it is the first time an adult-oriented show will be interactive. The forthcoming episode will also be Netflix’s first venture into live-action interactive television. Previous animated projects include Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale, Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile and more.
Netflix isn’t the first company to dabble in interactive storytelling. HBO launched a $20 million app called Mosaic from director Steven Soderbergh (Traffic, Ocean’s 11). NBC also tried to make its own interactive show in 2008.
