Two weeks ago I talked about the struggles of being a potential new member of Greek Life and different ways to have a stellar recruitment. This week, I’m going to give a little shout out to our actives and hand out some helpful hints to stay healthy.
1. Eat Healthy
Believe me, after every day of recruitment last week I was at Bagel Street Deli or Ginger, but eating healthy alternatives will really help in the long run. Focus on proteins and healthy carbs. Stay away from caffeine and sugar. It will only make you feel good for a few hours rather than the whole day.
2. Try Honey or Lozenges
If you can’t speak, how can you even think about recruiting girls? My voice is already gone, and I don’t know how I will survive. I would also suggest putting the honey in hot tea. It helps when you’re sick or healthy.
3. Sleep
Seriously, I know it’s hard. With school, homework and everything else-- sleeping seems impossible, but it is possible. It is also really important to survive.
4. Try Vitamin C Packets or Orange Juice
Vitamin C (whether taken in supplements or as orange juice) is a good way to keep your immune system in check. It always helps!
5. Exercising
As bad as it sounds, going on a run can release steam and helps combat stress. Check out some of the classes at Ping and do a workout with a fellow sister.
6. Try not to Stress Out
The side effects of stress are more extreme than you think. Some of them are headaches, stomachaches and a lower immune system. Take a deep breath, calm down and relax. Recruitment is only two weekends long.
7. Be a confident Active
You are a strong, amazing woman. You wear the letters of a thousand woman that came before you, all of whom are cheering your sorority on.
8. Stay away from the sick
They may be your sisters, but sometimes it is good to keep them at an arms length. Keep away from anyone coughing or sneezing.
9. Stay hydrated
Bring a water bottle. I always try to sneak a few snacks when I can. You should already be drinking 6-8 cups of water a day anyway. Plus the more water you drink, the easier it will be to talk to potential new members and connect with them.
10. Just keep smiling, smiling, smiling!
Focus on those amazing new members and how great it will feel when you meet all of your future sisters. That thought is enough to make you smile just as big as Dory from Finding Nemo.
