Officers responded to multiple calls for an odor of marijuana last week, resulting in citations.
Local police officers saw their fair share of green on campus this past week.
Ohio University Police Officers were dispatched Monday to a room in Fenzel House on South Green for a strong stench of marijuana. Per the report, the case didn’t take much investigating, as officers saw marijuana on a table in the room as soon as a male greeted them at the doorway. The male then handed over a bag of marijuana and was cited for possession.
Tuesday afternoon, OUPD officers responded to Cady Hall on South Green for another marijuana-odor-related incident. Contact was made with a male, and he admitted a small amount of marijuana was located in the room before promptly turning it over to officers, according to the police report. He was cited with possession of controlled substances, pending his court date.
Saturday afternoon brought another incident involving the smell of marijuana escaping from a dorm room, as OUPD responded to yet another residence hall, this time to Hoover House on South Green. Officers discovered the odor was coming from the “third floor area,” according to a police report, but were unable to determine the exact location. Charges are pending for a resident for marijuana possession and marijuana paraphernalia.
Later that night, at around 10:30 p.m., OUPD responded to Washington Hall on East Green after officers were notified of a strong stench of marijuana coming from a dorm room. Further investigation led to officers citing one male with possession of marijuana, another male with possession of marijuana and for marijuana paraphernalia, and one female for marijuana paraphernalia.
The Athens Police Department stumbled upon an odd drug case of its own at about 4 a.m. Sunday, after initially responding to a Franklin Avenue home for a fight or an assault. When speaking to the involved parties, officers noticed a male in the residence attempting to hide a small plastic baggie that contained a white powder residue. After the bag was recovered by police, it was sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for testing, according to a police report.
OUPD also responded to a series of alcohol-related incidents last week.

Saturday, officers responded to an assault complaint in Hoover House on South Green, where a male said another male had threatened and assaulted him. While conducting the investigation, an officer came into contact with another male inside a second-floor stairwell. The male had an odor of alcohol on his breath and had slurred speech, according the report. He refused to provide identification and was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct by intoxication and drug paraphernalia, while the male involved in the assault was placed under arrest for aggravated menacing and assault.
Both males were transported to the Southeast Ohio Regional Jail.
Additionally, officers witnessed a male walking up Mill Street near College Street who was visibly staggering on the sidewalk on Saturday. Upon making contact with the male, the officers noticed he was unsteady on his feet, according to a police report, and had the smell of alcohol on his breath. The male was transported to SEORJ.
Thursday night, officers responded to O’Bleness House on South Green in regard to a male who was in an “extremely disoriented state,” according to a police report. The male had been unable to stand on his own and couldn’t respond to simple questions. While en route to SEORJ, the male vomited on himself. He was issued a citation for Disorderly Conduct/Intoxication.
