The Cleveland Indians won its 21st straight win and set an American League record, and some celebrity babies were born this week. Here’s some other fun news from the week:
1. Burger King babies
Authorities in New Jersey found themselves at the same Burger King two nights in a row this weekend, but they weren’t there for fries and burgers. The Associated Press said Denville police were called to the restaurant Friday night for a woman going into labor.
“The same patrol officers went back to the restaurant the next night for a report of another woman going into labor,” the AP report stated. “Authorities say the couple was heading to the hospital when the woman started going through severe contractions.”
The couples each went home with a baby boy (and hopefully an ICEE) at the end of the night.
2. 104-year-old “yarn-bombed” her town
Grace Brett decided to give the towns of Selkirk, Ettrickbridge, and Yarrow in Scotland a little extra love when she “yarn-bombed” her each town.
The grandmother of six filled the town with knitted art on fences, benches and lamp poles.
“I liked seeing my work showing with everyone else and thought the town looked lovely,” Brett told the Daily Record. “It’s very nice of you to take any notice of it.”
3. A 6-year-old is looking to pay off her district’s lunch debt
Amiah Van Hill, a 6-year-old in Idaho, set up a lemonade stand in her town, but instead of using the money to buy a new bike, she’s looking to pay off the debts of students who can’t afford lunch afford lunch at her school.
“Amiah first raised money to help pay off the lunch debt at her school, Hayden Meadows Elementary School, as well as at two other elementary schools,” the Huffington Post reported. “She now has her eyes on raising $23,000 to pay off the lunch debt for the Coeur d’Alene school district.”
4. People in Florida rescued the manatees during Hurricane Irma
As Hurricane Irma drained water from the coasts in Florida, manatees were ending outside of the water and stranded. Residents in Florida, however, took to helping the animals make their way back to the water.
“Residents managed to roll the manatees onto a green tarp — taken from the back of one of their trucks — and slide them "100 yards" to where the bay had receded,” Mashable reported.
5. 7-year-old hopes to throw the first pitch at every ballpark with her 3D-printed hand
Hailey Dawson, a 7-year-old with a 3D-printed hand, is looking to throw the first pitch for every MLB team, and the teams are working to make her goal a reality.
Dawson has already thrown the first pitch for the for the Orioles, but it looks like many other teams would love to have her. She will also throw the first pitch during the World Series this fall.
