Coach Tim Albin signed a contract last Friday to become coach of the Bobcats following the retirement of former coach Frank Solich.
Albin signed a four-year deal and now owns the highest base salary of any Ohio University employee, according to documents obtained by The Post.
The contract was signed July 9 and is set to expire Dec. 31, 2024. Albin begins with an annual base salary of $535,000, which is larger than Solich’s 2020 salary of $530,935. Albin, who served as the offensive coordinator for 16 seasons, earned a salary of $151,771 in 2020, according to The Post’s 2020-21 salary guide.
Bonuses that Albin is entitled to, according to his contract, include:
- Additional 5% of base pay if Ohio wins the Mid-American Conference East Division and participates in the MAC Championship Game.
- Additional 5% of base pay if the team wins the MAC Championship.
- Additional 5% of base pay if the team wins a bowl game.
- Additional $100,000 if the team participates in a New Year’s Six bowl game.
- Additional $25,000 if Ohio achieves a Top 25 ranking at the end of the season, according to either the Associated Press or Coaches/USA Today polls.
- Additional $10,000 if he is named MAC Coach of the Year.
- Additional $25,000 if he is named National Coach of the Year.
- Cumulative incentives based on the number of regular season wins: $5,000 for eight wins, $5,000 for nine wins, $10,000 for 10 wins, $10,000 for 11 wins and $10,000 for 12 wins.
The contract also states that Albin and the Ohio athletic director will reconvene on or before Dec. 31, 2022 to discuss “modifications to the terms and an extension of this Agreement.”
